WORKING IN SAN FRANCISCO
Enlightening Refresh
This project is the renovation of Richard Neutra’s 1940 Kahn House in San Francisco. The four-story house perched on the edge of Telegraph Hill, has a spectacular view of the Embarcadero and the Bay Bridge. All four levels have generous balconies overlooking these amazing views.
The house as conceived by Neutra, has the atmosphere of a night club. The living room and bar and a terrace on the top floor, dining and kitchen are on the fourth-floor, bedrooms and service spaces occupy the two floors below. Previous renovations hid original wall and floor design elements. We removed these elements and restored the interior surfaces to the original design. Lighting, fittings, and fixtures were designed and selected to be sympathetic with the original intent. The Owner’s carefully curated art selections and original furniture enhance the overall design scheme.
